When we keep on cooling water, it loses energy. At a certain temperature it turns into ice and changes its state from liquid to solid. This process is called freezing or solidifying.

 

When we keep on heating ice, it gains energy. At a certain temperature it turns into water and changes its state from solid to liquid. This process is called melting.

 

When we keep on heating water, it gains energy. At a certain temperature it turns into steam or water vapour and changes its state from liquid to gas. This process is called boiling or evaporation. 

 

When we keep on cooling steam or water vapour, it loses energy. At a certain temperature it turns into water and changes its state from gas to liquid. This process is called condensation.
