Hi everybody!
Groundhog Day is such a cute celebration to include in our February plan. Never want to miss it but how can we make the most of it with such busy agenda?
I am currently studying animal classification in Science - third grade- and I decided to link different types of activities that could be done in 2 hours on top which are:
? Start with a preparatory reading on Epic that can be fiction or non-fiction. Suggestions are: "Celebrating Holidays: Groundhog Day" by Rachel Grack (non-fiction and "Groundhog Day!" by Gail Gibbons (fiction). Though if you have any further readings you prefer to use, please do it, there are tons of them :)
? Some cultural background questions
? Science connected questions
? STEM activity: you can find a groundhog template if you don't want to have your kids drawing it. They would make Punxsy Phil's miniature with two banners: one saying winter and the other saying spring. Next, they would find a light spot in pairs and explain to each other what happens whether or not the groundhog sees its shadow.
I hope you like my approach for a meaningful Groundhog Day's-based class celebration :)
Do not forget to share, write an honest review or follow if you like it!
