The word like has several different uses in English. One of the most common uses is to talk about things we enjoy. For example: “I like chocolate” or “She likes playing soccer.” Another use of like is to make comparisons, such as “He runs like a cheetah” or “This tastes like lemon.” We also use like before giving examples, for instance: “Some tropical fruits, like mango and pineapple, grow in warm climates.” Finally, like can be used in casual speech as a filler word, especially among young people. For example: “I was, like, really tired after school.” Understanding the context helps you know the meaning of like in each sentence.
