Ukraine is a sovereign state. It has its own territory, government, national emblem, state flag and anthem. There are 24 administrative regions in Ukraine. The geographical position of Ukraine is very favourable to the development of its relations with countries of  Europe as well as with the countries through the world.

The territory of Ukraine is more than six hundred thousand square kilometers. Two such countries as Italy can be placed on its territory. Ukraine occupies the 42nd place in the world as to its territory being the largest country in Western Europe. It stretches from east to west for 1,316 km and from north to south for 893 km. The geographical centre of Europe is located near the small Ukrainian town Rakhiv.

The population is about 42 million people.

Kyiv is the capital of Ukraine. It is very ancient and beautiful. 95% of the Ukrainian ea is flat and the rest of it is mountainous. The Ukrainian Carpathians, with the highest peak Hoverla (2,061m high) and the Crimean Mountains (the highest peak is Roman Kosh (1,545 m high)) make up 5% of its area. Ukraine is washed by the Black Sea and the sea of Azov and it has very important ports. The sea of Azov is the world’s most shallow sea. Its average depth is 5-7 meters.

There are 71,000 rivers and streams in Ukraine. The major rivers are the Dnipro, the Dnister, the Bug, the Donets the Danube and others. The Dnipro is one of the longest European rivers and one country’s main sources of hydroelectric power. Its total length is 2,285 km. It divides Ukraine into two parts: Right Bank and Left Bank Ukraine. The Danube connects Ukraine with seven European countries.     

Ukraine has many industrial raw materials. It has rich depositions of iron, metals, coal, oil, gas and other natural resources. The country has metallurgical and heavy industries. It is the agricultural country.
