A Strange Day at the Zoo

Last Saturday, Maria and her little brother José went to the zoo with their parents. The sky was blue, and the sun was shining. It was the perfect day for an adventure!

First, they saw the lions. One lion was sleeping, but the other was walking slowly and looking at the visitors. José said, “I think he is hungry!” and Maria laughed.

Then, they visited the monkey area. A funny monkey jumped near Maria and tried to take her hat! Everyone laughed, and Maria said, “He wants to be fashionable!”

After lunch, something strange happened. A parrot started talking! It said, “Hello! I am the boss!” José was surprised. “Did he really say that?” he asked. The parrot continued, “Give me a cookie!”

Maria gave the parrot a cookie from her snack box. The parrot took it and flew away. José said, “This is the best zoo ever!”

They all went home tired but happy. What a strange and fun day at the zoo!

1. When do we use Present Perfect?

• To talk about actions or experiences at an unspecified time in the past.
  • I have visited Japan.
• To talk about actions that started in the past and continue until now.

• To talk about actions that happened in the past but still have a result now.
  • He has broken his leg (he can’t walk now).

2. Form

• Affirmative (+): Subject + have/has + past participle (V3)
  • I have eaten breakfast.
  • She has finished her homework.
• Negative (–): Subject + have/has + not + past participle
  • I haven’t seen that movie.
  • He hasn’t called me.
• Question (?): Have/Has + subject + past participle

3. Time expressions used with Present Perfect
