The most powerful measuring instruments used nowadays are multimeters, oscilloscopes, and LCR (inductance (L), capacitance (C), and resistance (R) meters. Multimeters assess three basic electrical characteristics: voltage, current, and resistance, and are used primarily for batteries and power supplies. Oscilloscopes detect changing voltage signals continuously and are then converted into waves that can be analyzed to extract information on properties such as frequency, amplitude, time interval, and more. Different circuit types can require more sophisticated instruments. The inductance, capacitance, and power of electronic components are calculated by LCR meters.
