Writing Task: Speculating About Two Pictures

Instructions

Look at the two pictures provided. In your writing, speculate about what might have happened in the scenes using past modals (e.g., "might have," "could have," "must have") and include gerunds and infinitives appropriately.

Task

Write two paragraphs, each approximately 100 words.

  1. In the first paragraph, describe the first picture and speculate about the events leading up to it. Use past modals to express possibilities or assumptions (e.g., "They might have been preparing for a celebration"). Incorporate gerunds and infinitives to describe actions or intentions (e.g., "They seemed to enjoy decorating the space").

  2. In the second paragraph, focus on the second picture. Compare it to the first and speculate about what might have changed or happened afterward. Use past modals to suggest outcomes (e.g., "It must have been a successful event"). Include gerunds and infinitives to describe ongoing or intended actions (e.g., "They appeared to be cleaning up after the party").
