In this activity, I provide students with a short descriptive text about a place. They start by reading the text carefully to identify what elements are mentioned. After that, students write several new sentences using There isn’t / There aren’t to talk about things that do not appear in the original description. This helps them practice transforming affirmative ideas into negative ones, which reinforces grammatical control. The activity focuses on reading comprehension because students must fully understand the original text before producing new information. It also strengthens writing skills by encouraging them to generate grammatically correct negative sentences. The task promotes critical thinking as students decide what elements are absent and how to express that correctly. Additionally, students learn to use descriptive vocabulary in a more flexible and creative way, making the activity both instructional and reflective.
