• ตัวตั้ง (Minuend): จำนวนเริ่มต้นที่มีอยู่ (จำนวนที่อยู่ด้านบนเวลาตั้งลบแนวตั้ง)ตัวลบ (Subtrahend): จำนวนที่นำไปหักออก หรือลบออกจากตัวตั้ง (จำนวนที่อยู่ด้านล่าง)
• ผลลบ (Difference): คำตอบหรือผลลัพธ์ที่ได้จากการลบ
• การกระจาย/การยืม (Regrouping/Borrowing): การเปลี่ยนกลุ่มตัวเลขโดยดึงค่า 10 จากหลักสิบ มาเพิ่มให้หลักหน่วย เพื่อให้ตัวตั้งในหลักหน่วยมีค่ามากพอที่จะลบได้
• หลักหน่วย (Ones): ตัวเลขในตำแหน่งขวาสุด มีค่าเท่ากับตัวเลขนั้นๆ (เช่น 1, 2, 3... 9)
• หลักสิบ (Tens): ตัวเลขในตำแหน่งถัดจากหลักหน่วยไปทางซ้าย (1 ในหลักสิบ มีค่าเท่ากับ 10)
