The 9/11 Attacks: A Tragic Event in History
On September 11, 2001, the United States experienced a series of terrorist attacks that shocked the world. Nineteen terrorists from the group al-Qaeda hijacked four planes. Two of these planes crashed into the Twin Towers of the World Trade Center in New York City, causing both towers to collapse. A third plane hit the Pentagon, the headquarters of the U.S. Department of Defense, in Virginia. The fourth plane, United Airlines Flight 93, was headed towards Washington, D.C., but crashed into a field in Pennsylvania after passengers tried to take control from the hijackers.
In total, nearly 3,000 people lost their lives in the attacks. The event had a significant impact on global politics, leading to the U.S. War on Terror, and changes in airport security around the world. Every year, people around the world remember the victims of 9/11.
