📝 Student Instruction: Present Continuous Tense

1. When do we use Present Continuous?
   • To talk about actions happening right now.
   • To talk about temporary actions.
   • Example: I am reading a book now.

2. Form

• Affirmative (+): Subject + am/is/are + verb+ing
  • I am playing football.
  • She is cooking dinner.
  • They are studying English.
• Negative (–): Subject + am/is/are + not + verb+ing
  • I am not playing football.
  • He is not (isn’t) sleeping.
  • We are not (aren’t) watching TV.
• Question (?): Am/Is/Are + subject + verb+ing
  • Am I talking too fast?
  • Is she singing?
  • Are they playing outside?

3. Spelling rules for -ing

• Most verbs → add -ing
  • play → playing
• Verb ending in -e → drop e + ing
  • write → writing
• Short verb (CVC: consonant + vowel + consonant) → double last consonant + ing
  • run → running

4. Time words for Present Continuous

• now
• right now
• at the moment
• today

Change the verb into Present Continuous.

• She (eat) lunch now. → She is eating lunch now.
• I (not watch) TV. → I am not watching TV.
• (they / play) football? → Are they playing football?

Complete the sentences with the correct form of the verb (am/is/are + V3).

  • Simple Present Passive: be (am/is/are) + Past Participle (V_/ed)
