L'appartement était rouge, rouges la moquette, la salle à manger Henri II, la soie gaufrée qui masquait les portes vitrées, et dans le cabinet de papa les rideaux de velours ; les meubles de cet antre sacré étaient en poirier noirci ; je me blotissais dans la niche creusée sous le bureau, je m'enroulais dans les ténèbres ; il faisait sombre, il faisait chaud et le rouge de la moquette criait dans mes yeux.
