# Never Forget 9/11

On the morning of Septemeber 11th, 2001, a Boeing 767 hit the World Trade Center around 8:40 AM. Another plane ended up colliding with the south tower a short time later, and both of the towers ultimately collapsed. A Boeing 757 also hit the Pentagon; this was all part of a terrorist attack carried out be Al Qaeda in attempt to neutralize the threat of the USA assisting many governments that Al Qaeda was trying to attack.

Over 2,900 people, including 400+ first responders died in 9/11. These first responders, which included firefighters, police officers, and EMS, all sacrificed their lives to save others. Additionally, 300K-500K people were rescued by ferry boats and the coast guard, which is the largest waterborne rescuse mission ever.

Let this day be one to remember 9/11 and how significant of an impact it had on not just the US, but also on the world. Furthermore, any 9/11 related jokes or serious discussions about it will be met with serious punishments.

I'm a typical student, I suppose. I study hard during the week and go out with my friends at the weekend. I don't have much free time but I've got lots of hobbies. I play tennis occasionally, about once every two months, and I do judo every now and then when I'm at home with my family. I don't do any sport at university, though. I watch TV most days for about an hour, but I hardly ever read. No books, no magazines, nothing! I listen to music all the time - in the car, in my room, when I'm doing homework, when I'm going to sleep. I love it. My favourite group is Coldplay but I like lots of different types of music. I go to concerts quite often, usually three or four times a year, and I always enjoy them.

My other big hobby is my computer. I don't play games on it - I think they're boring - but I'm online nearly every day. I chat to my friends on Facebook and look at photos, and I download films and music. I love watching films. I watch a film on TV almost every day and I go to the cinema twice a month, more or less. I don't like horror films - they're scary! - but I like romantic films and action films. I never read books but I read the newspaper every day online. I'm not into politics but I like reading about famous people. I think it's interesting.

So that's me. I'm a very ordinary person, really. I'm not a sportsman but I like playing tennis and doing judo. I'm not a bookworm but I love watching films and reading newspapers. And I'm not a musician but I'm always listening to music.

Grammar_LW5_U3L2 : Present perfect " Have you ever.."

Write questions using the Present Perfect tense with the word "ever." Use the prompts. For eg: 

• (travel) across America = Have you ever travelled across America?

Have you ever been to the beach? Did you see a man with a headset pointing a long pole at the ground? If so you might have seen a person using a metal detector. People use these devices to find metal. Metal detectors make magnetic waves. These waves go through the ground. The waves change when they hit metal. Then the device beeps. This lets the person with the device know that metal is close. The first metal detectors were meant to help miners. They were big. They cost a lot of money. They used a lot of power. And worst of all, they didn't work well. People kept trying to make them better. Metal detectors got smaller. Now they are light and cheap. They also work better. That is why people bring them to the beach. They can look for rings in the water. They can look for phones in the sand. Metal detectors help them find these things. They usually just find junk though. Metal detectors also protect people. They help to keep guns out of some places. They are in airports. They are in courthouses. Some schools use them. They help guards look for weapons. Guards use special wands to find metal on a person.

These devices save lives in other ways too. During wars, people plant bombs in the ground. When the war ends, they don't clean up their messes. This is unsafe for the people who live in those places. Others use metal detectors to find bombs. They remove them and help the people. These devices also make clothes safer. It sounds funny, but it's true. Most clothes are made in big factories. There are lots of needles in these places. Needles break from time to time. They get stuck in the clothes. They would poke people trying them on. They don't though. That's because our clothes are scanned for metal. Isn't that nice? Let's hear it for metal detectors. They make the world a safer place
